The change of color in marble statues happened because of acid rain.in a polluted area normally sulphur oxides and nitrogen oxides will be present in atmosphere. when rains come these oxides mixed with rain water and come down as acid rain.it will spoil the lustrous nature of marble and it caused that coloured change.
