side of square = 2x unit.

perimeter of square = 4× 2x = 8x unit.

area of square = (2x)² = 4x² sq.unit

so perimeter of octagon = 4x² unit.

so , the sum of the perimeters of the two figures

= perimeter of square + perimeter of octagon

= 8x + 4x² unit .

= 4x(x+2) unit.
