HOTS Questions :
1. Why do we store sodium in kerosene oil?
2. Graphite is used as an electrode. Why?
3. Copper vessels are coated with a greenish deposit on their surface. Why?

1. Bcoz...Na is a very reactive metal nd is kept in kerosene oil to prevent it from coming in contact with oxygen and moisture...

2. Bcoz.. graphites structure enables it to be an excellent conductor...

3. Due to formation of copper carbonate...which is green in colour..

1.Sodium and Potassium are highly reactive metals and react vigorously with the oxygen, carbon dioxide and moisture present in the air such that it may even cause a fire. To prevent this explosive reaction, Sodium is kept immersed in kerosene because Sodium doesn't react with kerosene....

2.Graphite rods are used as electrodes in electrolysis because graphite's structure enables it to be an excellent conductor. The high number of delocalized electrons allows electricity to pass through graphite rapidly.

3.Copper vessels undergo oxidation due to the humidity during the rainy season . The green deposit is due to the basic copper carbonate formed on the surface of the Vessel.
