I completely agree that households should have a limit on the amount of garbage that they produce. Any garbage above the prescribed limit should attract penalties. Such a limitation has many benefits, including reduced wastage, increased recycling and reusing, reduced amount of garbage reaching the garbage disposal plants or landfills, increase in composting of organic waste and lesser manpower required to collect, sort and handle the garbage. Above all, the long term benefits will begin to show in terms of a positive change in the mindset of the people, who will start realising just how much they had been wasting earlier, and also encourage them to shift to the environment saving ideology of reduce, reuse and recycle. Eventually, with efforts from each family, the city will begin to look cleaner, improving the general standard of living.
