Once the zygote is formed, it divides and and redivides to form a mass of about 12-15 cells. this stage is known as Morulla. Remember it hasn't embedded in the uterine wall yet. The Morulla further redivides to form the blastocyst. This stage generally occurs during the first to second week after fertilization. The blastocyst divides to form the embryo( a mass of hundreds of cells) and gets embedded in the uterine wall. the embryo is attached to the uterus with the help of placenta which further forms the umbilical chord. The baby derives nutrition from the mother's body through the placenta and the metabolic wastes generated are also passed to the mother's body through the placenta. In this way the zygote developes into a foetus in about nine months(gestation period) after which the developed baby comes out from the mother's body and the process is known as parturition.
