g=GM/r^2

The value of g also changes if we go inside the earth. The value of r in equation above decreases and one would think that the value of g should increase as per the formula. However, the part of the earth which contributes towards the gravitational force felt by the object also decreases. Which means that the value of M to be used in equation above also decreases. As a combined result of change in r and M, the value of g decreases as we go deep inside the earth.

As depth increases, the value of acceleration due to gravity (g) falls. The value of g is more at equator and less at poles.

Formula: g = GM/r2

Values of g in CGS: 980 cm s-2

Values of g in SI: 9.806 ms-2

Dimensional Formula: M0L1T-2
