how accessory pigments prevent photo-oxidation of chlorophyll a?

As light falls on chlorophyll a, it keeps on radiating electrons
⇒ chlorophyll a gets oxidised (removal of electron is termed oxidation)
Continuous oxidation damages the pigment.
• The lost electrons are compensated by electrons evolved during splitting of water in OEC (Oxygen Evolving Complex)
• But this is a slow process
• Thus the accessory pigments (or antennae complex) momentarily supply electrons to the reaction centre chlorophyll a till it gets electrons from water splitting in OEC.

HOPE IT IS USEFUL .-...-.
