Crocker Harris was a very strict and rigid teacher who expected all rules and regulations to be followed every time. He was very hard on students with respect to their studies and was not at all bothered about their sentiments. Crocker Harris also had a non-understanding and indifferent attitude towards his students. As a result, no student dared to disobey him and respected him out of fear.

An example of the personality of Crocker Harris can be seen by the way he responded when Taplow asked him for the form that he should have got for doing extra work. The teacher replied that he had given the boy exactly what he deserved – nothing less, nothing more.

According to Taplow Mr. Crocker Harris was not like the other masters because he did not have any feelings. He was a dry type of person. He seemed to hate the idea of people liking him.

Even though he was leaving the school at the end of the term and was very busy, he asked Taplow to do extra work which he had missed when he was ill. When Taplow asked him for the result he did not disclose it to him like the other masters would do.
