Air blows because of a difference in pressure between one place and another.
Consider the drawing.
The air compressor, when in operation produces a pressure higher than the surrounding area. Please note the hand valve on the pipe above the connection. If this valve is opened the difference in pressure will cause air to blow from the tank out of the connection until the pressures inside and outside the tank are equalized.
