How am I to no that an element is metals and non-metals

the element which losses electron is metal and have positive charge

whereas, non meta are those element which gain electron and haimve negative charge

Elements have been divided into different types like metals and nonmetals on their basic differences.

1)Metals are lustrous but non metals are not lustrous(shiny).

2)Metals are malleable and ductile whereas non metals are not malleable and ductile that is they cannot be beaten up in two sheets and they cannot be drawn into wires.

3) Most of the metals are solids while non metals may be solid liquid or gas.

4) metals have
high boiling and melting point but non- metals have low boiling points and melting points.

5) metals are sonorous but non metals are non- sonorous( no distinct sound is heard when struck)

There are more differences From where u would be able to identify which element is metal and which is non metal.

And exceptions are there.
