Here's the Answer!
After ovulatory phase (ovulation), the luteal phase starts. The remaining parts of ruptured Graafian follicle transform as corpus luteum in this phase. The corpus luteum secretes large amount of progesterone which is essential for the maintenance of endometrium. In the absence of fertilisation, the corpus luteum degenerates causing disintegration of endometrium leading to menstruation.
