How and why does the size of an atom vary on moving from left to right in a period.(Modern periodic table)

the size of an atom decreases on moving from left to right in a period

1)electrons are added to same shell
2)as the electrons are added to same shell the nucleus will have stronger hold and tries to pull the electrons towards itself which reduces the size

due to effective nuclear charge the size decreases from left to right
