Anhydrous copper sulphate is white in colour but turns blue when comes in contact with water . So this property of anhydrous copper sulphate can be used to detect moisture in liquid

Anhydrous copper (II) sulphate, CuSO4 is a white amorphous solid. Copper sulphate compound obtains blue colour only when it gets exposed to moisture. Each copper sulphate molecule aggregates with 5 molecules of water (water of crystallization) to form blue colour crystals. Hence the actual molecular formula of blue copper sulphate is CuSO4. 5H2O commonly known as blue vitriol.
