The Little Match Girl is a story about a little girl who is desperate to find happiness and comfort. She sells matches and the last thing she does in her life is light the matches she sells while having happy visions.Everyone is busy celebrating with feasts and warm fires, as the little girl lights her matches while huddled in a space between two houses: the visions that she has whenever she lights the matches, offers her peace and happiness that she would otherwise not have. When found dead the next day, she looked peaceful and serene.

THE ANSWER

The title of the story is appropriate especially considering that the story focuses on the life and suffering of the little girl who sells matches. The matches being mentioned in the title also fits well because, those matches are the only things the little girl depends on to earn money and they also become the reason she dies peacefully. By lighting those matches the little girl found happiness in the happy visions that she had.
