Molality(m) is defined as the no. of moles of solute dissolved in 1 kg of the solvent.

Molarity(M) is defined as the no. of moles of solute dissolved in 1 litre of the solution.

So, 0.5 m KOH means that 0.5 moles of solute i.e. KOH has been dissolved in 1 kg of the solvent.

Whereas, 0.5 M KOH means that 0.5 moles of solute i.e. KOH is present in 1 litre of the solution.
