Explanation:

Grignard reagent is RMgX when it reacts with an aldehyde or ketones it gives alcohols.

Example: When methyl magnesium bromide reacts with formaldehyde it gives methyl magnesium alkoxide and finally gives ethanol.

CH₃MgBr + HCOH → HC(CH₃)(H)(O-MgBr)

HC(CH₃)(H)(O-MgBr) + H ⁺ → CH₃CH₂OH
