The alveoli are thin walled and richly supplied with a network of blood vessels to facilitate exchange of gasesbetween blood and the air filled inalveoli. They have balloon – like structure that provide maximum surface area for exchange of gases.

The bronchus, within the lungs divide into smaller tubes called bronchioles and finally terminate in balloon-like structures called "alveoli". The alveoli are made up of thin moist members which are richly supplied within blood and provide a very large surface area for the gaseous exchange.
