Animals are classified based on their characteristics:-

⚫ They are eminent from algae, plants, and fungus where rigid cell walls are absent.

⚫ Some are also heterotrophic, in general, they digest their food within the internal chambers which again distinguish them from algae and plants.

⚫ Another elite character of these species is that they are not motile, except in certain life stages.

Animals are classified on the basis of  their similarities and differences.

Explanation:

  • Organisms are organized by the taxonomic classification method which was proposed by Carolus Linnaeus.

  • The taxonomic group of classification contains seven levels on the basis of which organisms are classified. The organisms having the most similarities have more common levels in between them.

  • The seven levels of classification are:
  1. Kingdom
  2. Phylum
  3. Class
  4. Order
  5. Family
  6. Genus
  7. Species

  • The organisms showing similarities will have a more common ancestor in the recent past.
