how are clouds formed

Clouds form when the invisible water vapor in the air condenses into visible water droplets or ice crystals. For this to happen, the parcel of air must be saturated, i.e. unable to hold all the water it contains in vapor form, so it starts to condense into a liquid or solid form.

- When wet air rises, clouds develop. The air grows cooler as it climbs.
- When the air can no longer retain all of the water vapour, part of it condenses to create small water droplets.
- Fog forms when wet air is cooled near the ground.
- Clouds occur at a variety of heights, ranging from near the ground to very high in the atmosphere.
- Clouds have a wide range of appearances, depending on how the air moves when the clouds develop.
- Clouds should also be observed for the proportion of sky they cover, where they are in the sky, how much sky they cover, and their movement direction.
