coal and petroleum are
combustible substance . they are the residues of remains of plants and animals that got buried millions of years ago. it is said that before million of years ago, when there were no humans in the earth ,due to sudden earthquake and disaster whole earth surface got covered with water and all the plants and animals got buried, day by day the temperature increases and the residues got down and down due to high pressure, this period is also known as carbomization period. the residues of plants formed coal and the residues of animals are called petroleum.

when the coal is first taken out from the ground it's not in pure form. the coal is heated in 1000degree temperature in the absence of oxygen is called destructive distillation, and coal gas coal tar and coke are obtained. coke is the pure form of carbon.
The process of separating the constituents of petroleum is called fractional distillation. the component of petroleum are -:
*petrol.
*diesel.
*bitumen.
*paraffin wax.
*LPG.
*kerosene.
*lubricating oil
