In componds the ratio of elements is always fixed.

EG -- In H20 the ratio is 2:1 by volume which is always fixed changing the ratio may result in formation of other compond like H2O2 which is toxic.

In mixtures the ratio in which elements are mixed is not fixed.

EG -- In Sugar Solution sugar can be added in any ratio it will always form sugar water.
