The Indian cropping season is classified into two main seasons-(i) Kharif and (ii) Rabi based on the monsoon. The kharif cropping season is from July –October during the south-west monsoon and the Rabi cropping season is from October-March (winter). The crops grown between March and June are summer crops
According to their seasons crops are grouped into two seasons . They are : —
(1) Rabi Season Crops : The crops which are grown in Octobet / November and are harvested by March / April ; such type of crops are known is Rabi Season Crops . For eg wheat , gram etc.
(2) Kharif Season Crops : The crops which are grown in rainy season in June / July and harvested by September / October ; such type of crops are known as Kharif Season Crops. For eg Rice , maize etc.
