The earthquakes and volcanoes are form due to disturbances in the plate tectonics present above the asthenosphere.

The earth's crust is basically a relatively thin layer of solid rock floating on a global ocean of molten rock, sometimes the continents drift into each other and push each other up forming mountain ranges, sometimes one is subducted under another and remelts, there are also areas where the crust is thinned and weakened by continents drifting apart, whether the continents are drifting apart or crashing together
