- Energy to do a work = Force × Distance moved by the force
- At the same time, the machine also does work in lifting a load through some distance. This is called the output energy or the work done by the machine. It is calculated as the product of the load (force) and the distance moved by the load.
- Ideally, as energy can neither be created nor destroyed, the energy input must be equal to the energy output. But practically this is not possible as some energy is wasted due to friction between the moving parts of the machine.
