Well, there are many reasons why forests can be effected by war. In WW2 the Arden Forest was effected by war because both German Panzer and American Sherman Tanks were blasting through it with gun and cannon fire as well as tank mounted flame throwers, not to mention the tanks rolled over much of the forest. In Viet Nam, agent orange as defoliant and herbicide destroyed much of the forest, as well as Napalm that just simply burned away the forest.
