- Fungal diseases: Fungi cause a number of serious diseases in plants, humans and domestic animals. A disease called ‘ringworm’ in which red circular patches appear on the skin is caused by fungal infection. Some fungi cause ear and lung infections also in the humans. Parasitic fungi causes number of diseases in plants like potato, sugarcane, wheat etc. and reduce their yield.
- Food Poisoning is due to the infection by certain poisonous fungi.
- Deterioration of materials and food: Some fungi grow on leather goods, paper, books, cotton and wood and cause considerable damage and decay in them.
