The subcontinental Indian plate crashed into the Asian continental plate with the Indian plate subducting under the denser Asian plate. As a result of the steady thrust, the Himalayans rose up between both plates. The Indian plate is still subducting under the Asian plate and the Himalayans are rising 2.5 cm each year as a result.

they are formed by the compressional force of tectonic plates . they are simply young fold mountain. actually they still subjected to compressional force and gradually become high .there are also some old fold mountains such as aravalli ranges in india .
