The Himalayas are the young-fold mountains which are located in the northern part of the country. The Himalayas act as a climatic barrier, as they protect the cold winds coming from the artic circle located in Northern Asia. This allows the northern states of the country to have higher temperatures as compared to the other places at the same lattitude.
The Himalayas are perennially snow-bound. The snow melts which provides the water to the Himalayan rivers as well as to freshwater lakes (e.g. Wular Lake in J&K). This freshwater is used in the agriculture sector for growing different crops during a single year. Thr northern plains are a good example of how the freshwater lakes and rivers have contributed to the development of the agriculture sector.
