The study of inscriptions is called 'epigraphy' and they are writings carved on seals, stone pillars, rocks, copper plates, temple walls and bricks or images. They are actually the most reliable data for studying events that happened in history.

• it provides us about different old materials like coins etc.
• it tells us about the achievements of rulers of that time.
