1. Rivers are the biggest source of fresh water. Other bodies contains 96% of their water as saline water.

2. It is the backbone of human civilization. Most of civilization started near rivers because it provides fertile soil for irrigation and transportation.

3. River water is also used for producing electricity. Hydroelectric plants are built in rivers for the creation of electricity. One of the example is at Bhakra Nangal Dam.
