All of these forms of radiation travel at the speed of light (186,000 miles or 300,000,000 meters per second in a vacuum). Infrared lies between the visible and microwave portions of the electromagnetic spectrum.

The only region in the entire electromagnetic spectrum that our eyes are sensitive to is the visible region. Gamma rays have the shortest wavelengths, < 0.01 nanometers (about the size of an atomic nucleus). This is the highest frequency and most energetic region of the electromagnetic spectrum.
