ligands are classified on the basis of the number of sites they provide to bind.

They can be classified as-

  • unidentate - provides only one site.ex:OH-
  • bidentate - provides two sites.ex:NO-
  • polydentate - provides many {more than two } sites. ex:EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetate)
