Soil is essential for all living organisms cause all the living constituents of this world directly/indirectly depend on soil for their food.Autotrophs get their nutrition from the soil and other plants and animals depend on the autotrophs directly or indirectly.
Therefore soil is very essential.

Aquatic organisms are not completely independent of soil.
The dead and decaying matter and converted into nutrients and are deposited in the sea bed (soil) and these are absorbed by the aquatic plants and other creatures and the other aquatic organisms are directly or indirectly dependent on them.
