Answer:

The structure of lungs in a human body is designed in a way to maximize the exchange of gases. Alveoli are present on the tip of every nerve ending which increase the surface area of the lungs and provides more exposure for the exchange of gases. These alveoli are in millions of numbers. The exchange of gases and successful breathing process occurs mainly through them.

Within the lungs , the air passage

divides into smaller and smaller tubes

called bronchi which in turn form

bronchioles . The bronchioles terminate

in balloon-like structures called alveoli .

The alveoli present in the lungs provide

maximum surface for exchange of gases .

The alveoli have vary thin walls and

contain an extensive network of blood

vessels to facilitate exchange of gases .
