in the respiratory system , 2 processes happens ....1. inhalation and 2. exhalation..
first the air goes into nostrils and then passes through air pipe.
then the air taken comes in contact with the bronchi and then it transfer it to the alveoli present in the lungs ..in alveoli the exchange of gases takes place ....the lungs are deigned like a balloon like structure ......
