The basic criterion of a lake is that it has a basin which gets filled with water. Once this fact is accepted, a small depression dug on the land which subsequently gets filled with rain water/surface runoff or an ephemeral water flow would become a man-made lake.

hey mate your answer is...
In contrast to natural processes of lake formation, reservoirs are man-made water-bodies, usually formed by constructing a dam across a flowing river. Upon completion of the dam, the river pools behind the dam and fills the artificially created basin.
