Answer: on the basis of their appearance materials are classified into two groups –

i. Some materials are shiny in nature i.e. lustrous. Eg:- diamond and gold  

ii. Some other materials do not appear shiny and are generally known as non-lustrous materials. Eg:-

graphite and wood.
