Answer:

Earth movements can cause rocks to be deeply buried or squeezed. then, the rocks are heated and put under great pressure . They do not melt, but the minerals they contain are changed chemically, forming metamorphic rocks.

Formation of Metamorphic Rocks

  1. Movements of Earth's crust causes Rocks to go underneath and are buried.
  2. They are subjected to High Temperature and Pressure here.
  3. As a result, some of Minerals they contain get transformed.

Example 1: Limestone turns to Marble

  • When Limestone gets buried in layers of Earth and subjected to High Temperatures and Pressure, Its minerals grow Larger and Fuse together.
  • Limestone re-crystallizes into a more denser rock with equal granules of calcite crystals to form Marble.

Example 2: Sandstone turns into Quartzite

  • The sparkly quartz crystals in sandstone are fused with intense heat and pressure to become tightly inter grown and hard dense rock called Quartzite.
