Very useful!

Without minerals, life as you and I know it would not be the same. A lot of negative attention is cast upon the mining industry because, at its core, mining is damaging to the environment. The trick is to find ways to mitigate that damage and reclaim the land after the resources have been extracted.

Despite the obvious environmental impact, mining is one of humanity’s oldest undertakings.

Some of ways minerals are used include, but are not limited to:

Iron for building large buildings

Slate for roofing tiles and chalkboards

Gypsum for plaster

Aluminum for use in automobiles, wrap, airplanes, etc.

Asbestos were once commonly used as a building material for adding strength and durability without added weight and as a flame retardant

Basalt (rock, not a mineral) is commonly used in road construction

Barium finds uses as a additive in paints, rubber, plastics and paper

Cadmium is used in plating and batteries

Clays are used ubiquitously as a component of drilling mud, pottery, construction materials, cosmetics, dinnerware, refractories, etc.

Copper is used in roofing, electrical wires, coins, jewelry, etc.
