Usefulness of Mountains :-

● Various plants and trees is species are found on the mountain like Conifers, Chestnut, Maple, Junipers, Stone crops, Mosses and Ferns etc.

● Mountains make-up on fifth of the worlds landscape and provide home to at least one fourth of the worlds people.

● Mountains also have great herbal concentration. We find various medicinal plants like Sarpagandha, Jamun, Arjun, Babool, Neem, Tulsi plant, Kanchar, Turmeric and Mint, etc.

● Various perennial rivers originate from mountains. For example Indus, Ganga amd Brahmaputra, etc.

● Climate over mountains is very cool. This is due to the fact that as we move from the sea level, temperature tends to decrease.

● From the river in the mountains hydroelectricity can be generated by making dams. For example, Nathpa Jhakhri Project in Sila in Himachal Pradesh and Bhakha Nangal Dam in Punjab.

● Mountains are a storehouse of various minerals like coal, gold, silver and gems etc.

● They also help in promoting health and tourism. People visit hill stations like Mussoorie, Srinagar, Darjeeling and Shimla etc.
