Movements and Interest Groups
Explanation:
(a) Movements are issue-specific. Movements are generally formed when a specific issue is dissatisfactory and a group of people come together to resolve the issue satisfactorily. The movement seeks to achieve a single objective within a limited time frame. There can also be general or generic movements that seek to achieve a broad goal. In India, Narmada Bachao Andolan is a good example of this kind of movement.
(b) Interest Groups are a group of people that have united with a view to pressurize or influence the government to change or remove a policy because the majority of people are dissatisfied with it. They do not aim to directly share political power. These are formed when people with common occupation, interest, aspirations or opinions come together for a common objective. The group will generally comprise of people who are directly or indirectly affected by the government policy.
