If a same sound strikes solid surfaces multiple times, it may cause multiple reflection of the sound. e.g. In a stethoscope, the heart beat produces a sound which collides with the walls of the tube several times before reaching the ear piece attached to the ear of the listener.
This multiple reflection can cause a persistence, which is known as reverberation.
