Nitrogen molecules in air is converted into ammonia which is present in soil. This process is known as nitrogen fixation. Now this ammonia is converted into nitrates and then nitrates by the help of chemoautotrophic bacteria like nitrosomonas, nitrococcus, nitrocystis, nitrobacter by the process called nitrification.
