how are o.5m of NaOH different from 0.5M of NaOH ?

0.5m refers to the molality of NaOH and 0.5M is the Molarity or concentration of NaOH

0.5m means 0.5 moles of NaOH in 1 kg of solvent whereas 0.5M means 0.5 moles in 1 litre of solution.
