How are osmosis and diffusion alike?
Both processes can occur across semipermeable membranes
Both processes occur through permeable bilayer membranes
Both require additional energy provided by channel proteins
Both allow solute molecules to move across a semipermeable membrane

Yes they are quiet alike, but not same.
Osmosis is the process of movement of solute or particles through a semipermiable which only allow or releases the unwanted substances.
But diffusion is not the same, it is spreading or movement of gas particles through any medium.
Eg. The raisins when kept in water shrink or bulge after some time.
We are able to smell a lighted insane stick or hot food from a place far away , because of diffusion.
