parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system are the most important part. The autonomic nervous system also has two divisions which are: the sympathetic division and the parasympathetic division.
These two divisions have opposite effects on the internal organs they innervate. Its action is the opposite of the sympathetic division most of the time.
AS an example, the sympathetic nervous system can accelerate heart rate, widen bronchial passages, decrease motility of the large intestine, constrict blood vessels, increase peristalsis in the esophagus, cause pupillary dilation, piloerection and perspiration, and raise blood pressure etc.
