n represents shell number and tells us about the size of the shell .

l represents subshells . There are 4 subshells s, p, d, f

S= 0 (spherical)

P =1

D=2

F =3

These tell us about the shape of the subshell

Range : from 0 to n - 1

For example n =3 l will be 0,1,2 ( only till n - 1 )

m represents number of orbitals .Orientation of the orbitals .

Range : from - l to + l

For example n=3.

l will be 0 , 1 , 2.

m will be - 3 , - 2 , - 1 , 0 , 1 , 2, 3
