Red soil is formed by weathering (slow breaking) of old crystalline igneous and metamorphic rocks. It is rich in iron and hence appears red in colour. In India, it is found mainly in Deccan plateau.

Hope it helps.

Answer:

Red soil is formed due to diffusion of iron in crystalline igneous and metamorphosis rock in areas of low rainfall in the eastern and southern part of the Deccan plateau.
