The study explores the configuration of relationships in people's everyday communication face to face and through four new media. It takes into account the social contexts of both respondents and their communication parteners as well as the closeness of the relationship between them. Further it analyses and compares the configuration of relationships overall and within these media at both the individual and configuration level.

o The key difference between friends made in person or online, is the order in which you get to know one another. When meeting a person in real life, your first line of judgement is how they look. Their appearance, their voice, their body shape. Later, if you decide to talk and converse, you will get to know their personality, religion, and ideologies. On the other hand, when you meet someone online, the first line of judgement is their personality, and their ‘insides’ in general. Later, if you decide to meet up with them, you will see their ‘outside’ for the first time. If that changes what you thought of them differs case by case.
