How are rivers like Ganga and Yamuna polluted?

Yasmin: I think it's because people put the bodies of dead people in this water so that the soul can rest in peace.

Varanasi is one of the oldest inhabited place in India. Ganges is believed to be a holy river by Hindus. They even dispose the bodies of dead in it. Some people use it for washing clothes. This pollutes the Ganges.
